About the Artist

IMG_0410George Rodrigue (1944-2013) started his career by painting Louisiana bayous, live oak trees, Cajuns and the legends and folklore of the Acadiana area.  It was from one of these Cajun legends about a ghostlike werewolf dog that the Blue Dog series was born.

"Sixty years later I still paint the way I felt as a child. I emphasize to students how important it is to retain that innocence, and that it's okay to create art in this way." -G.R.

In 2009 Rodrigue established the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts, providing art supplies to schools, a statewide scholarship art contest, and arts integration in education through Louisiana A+ Schools. Learn more- www.rodriguefoundation.org
